Using a Golf Net to Get Feedback on Your Swing

Renowned golf instructor Martin Hall demonstrates how to use a rope and the Super Swing Master Golf Net to provide vital feedback on your clubface’s position at impact—i.e., open, square or closed. By seeing where the ball starts relative to the rope and your target line, you’ll develop a keen sense of awareness for the face and be able to consistently dial up the shot shape you desire.

Martin Hall here with Five Star Golf Mats and I'm showcasing the Swing Master Net. Yes, it's a very windy day, you can hear that, but nevertheless you can still practice your golf. I am a huge fan – even bigger than that – of at home practicing in the net. I've done it for years! I recommend you do the same. Now, you can see that I've actually got on this net – terrific net, best I've ever seen, I must say, actually – but I've put a rope right on my target line, absolutely right on my target line. Now that's going to give me a start direction to the ball, which gives me a jolly good idea of where the face of the club is.

The net is great for contact, the net is great for swing path, but you need a touch of information about club face. Now, if I hit with a club face very close – point to the left – my ball would start well left of that net. If I was to hit with the club face very open – for me as a right-hander – pointing to the right, the ball will start very much to the right. So, the goal would be to swing in the correct direction which the residential mat helps with because you've got all the angles, you can see the lines. But it gives you an excellent idea as to where the club face is.

So, I have all my students who want to practice at home get a net, maybe you could get a launch monitor, but if you have the string down from the net you have a really good idea of where that club face is pointing at impact. So, let's have a look here and see where my club face is pointing about the moment that I collect the ball. Here we go! And I would say that passed maybe an inch on the right, with my look at it, which means my club face was good but slightly open. So, I would try and fine tune that. I cannot tell you how important I think it is that you practice with feedback. The mat helps with the contact, the net helps with the contact, the rope helps with the direction. It's all going to help lower your scores!
