Martin Hall: Martin Hall here for Five Star Golf Mats. Having a good golf mat to practice with without causing injury is vital. This mat, the Perfect ReAction mat, is the closest thing to grass I've ever seen. You can hit down and through without any fear of injuring your wrists or elbows, and that's a good thing. I tell you what else is a good thing, my friend Chris. Now, why have you got those bands around, Chris, what is this?

Chris: To keep tension on my arms.

Martin Hall: To keep tension in your arms, good answer. Some people think the arm should be really relaxed all the time, not so much. So the structure is pretty important in golf, isn't it?

Chris: Yes.

Martin Hall: When we watch good players, they keep their arms pretty straight. In fact, I would say to you at the young tender age you are, the longer you can keep your arms straight through the swing. Let's just have a practice swing or two. And all I've done with Chris here is just put an exercise band between his two hands and just behind his back. If you can just turn you back to the camera, we've just got this exercise band behind his back and then just turn back to the ball, Chris. Take a couple of practice swings. Gosh, all we've got to do is look at the people who make such a lot of money playing golf and they're keeping that width, they're keeping the band straight. Especially with the seven, eight, nine irons wedges, both on the back swing and on the down swing. So the feel would be you're going to try and keep your hands as far away from your right shoulder as you can going back and then you come through. You're going to try and keep your hands as far away from your left shoulder as you can, come in through. Ask me if you can hit balls with those bands.

Chris: Can I hit balls with the band?

Martin Hall: Yes, you can. And yes, you must. It's a great way to get structure. Those bands are so helpful. So let's say you hit one, now you're going to swing back, you're going to swing through, you're going to keep some amount of tension in the arms. Some is good to keep the structure across the joints. Here we go. Back and through. And that was a beautifully played shot! Probably finishing about 5 ft left of the line. A fabulous drill if you find you bend your arms too much. You got to promise me you're going to do a lot of that.

Chris: I will.

Martin Hall: Yes, I will be checking, by the way. That is going to help Chris and it's going to help you!
