Martin Hall: Martin Hall here for Five Star Golf Mats. We're on the Commercial octagon mat. It's designed like an octagon to prolong the life of the mat: you can rotate it. I'm joined this morning by my very good friend, Chris Didio, who's the head pro here at the Club at Ibis. And you do a fair amount of teaching, don't you?

Chris Didio: I do.

Martin Hall: Yeah, would you say that the chicken wing – they might be nice to eat – but the
chicken wing when it comes to golf is poison, isn't it?

Chris Didio: Very popular.

Martin Hall: Very popular, unfortunately. Well said indeed. Now, I have a fantastic drill that I'm going to have you do, and you can use it with your teaching to help people get out of the chicken wing. Now, the drill is simply this: I'm going to mimic left-handed here just so you can get the feeling of it. I'm going to say take your lead hand, which you for you is your left hand, and put it out there so the lead arm is fairly straight. And now I'm going to say go and get it! Go and get that club with your trail hand. Now, stay there, stay there, stay there. Can you feel how close your arms are together?

Chris Didio: I can.

Martin Hall: Can you feel how much your right shoulder has to turn through it?

Chris Didio: Yes.

Martin Hall: Absolutely let's do that one more time. The “Go and Get It” drill: One hand, join them together, keep those arms together. Beautiful structure through the ball. Memorize that, scan the body, memorize that. Can you put that into a golf swing for me?

Chris Didio: Sure.

Martin Hall: I think you can. So, think as you're going through the ball: go and get it! And you did go and get it! Look, as I said chicken wings might be nice to eat, they're horrible for your golf game. So “Go and Get It” as your chicken wing fix. That's going to help!
