Martin Hall here for Five Star Golf mats, and I'm showcasing what I think is the best net I have ever seen. The most versatile, the Swing Master Net, it's 9 ft tall. Makes it perfect for practicing your higher lofted wedges. A lot of wedges you can't do that. Well, if you did, you'd be in next door's back garden because you'd go over the top of it.Â
Â
So, something about wedges – what can I tell you? Well, quite a lot, actually. So, too many people, way too many people, when they set up with their wedges, they get their hands forwards. They get their head behind the ball, and that is a disaster on the way, train wreck waiting to happen. So, the drill that I would suggest you do – when you set up to the golf ball – stance is narrow, but when you set up to the golf ball put your hand together. So, the middle finger of each hand is the same distance from the ground, just like you were clapping hands.Â
Â
And then you would just want to just lower your right hand ever so slightly. Now, you can see when I do that, it doesn't tilt my shoulders very much. I don't need all this shoulder tilt, and neither do you! So, if I take my setup and literally clap hands with the club, and very gently take my grip, you can see I didn't change my shoulder angle. I didn't put some angle in here that would make ball/turf contact very difficult. Do I do that? Every time I pitch! If I'm on the golf course, you will see Martin Hall here, here, I'm going to put the weight a bit left, and then I'll take a couple of practice swings.Â
Â
And one of the reasons I like the residential mat is there's enough softness, there's enough density here, that I can actually feel I would be making a divot. You don't want a mat where the club just bounces straight out of it. So, let's see if I can hit decent chip shot. The clap hands drill, so the shoulders don't get too tilted, lean left a little bit, here we go! And you can see there's plenty of room there. There's no way that I'm going to hit the golf ball up over that net. So, if you get in the Clap Hands position, that is going to help your pitching.
