Renowned golf instructor Martin Hall demonstrates the perfect indoor drill for creating more clubhead speed and distance with your driver. All it requires is your driver’s headcover, Five Star Golf’s Residential Golf Mat, and a fast lead shoulder.

Martin Hall here for Five Star Golf mats. I'm actually on the Residential Mat, which is perfect for the basement. 5/8 total thickness, something you might want to use at home in the garage, things like that. Wonderful mat, I use one at home. And I've got a tip about how to make the
ball go father. Yes, we all want that, don't we? Look, the rate at which your lead shoulder turns from under your chin in the back swing, to behind your chin in the forward swing, the speed at which it goes has an awful lot to do with how far the ball will go.
Here's an exercise you should try: put a club cover somewhat on the grip end of the club like I'm doing here. And I'm going to have you put that across your shoulders, and I'm going to have you swing back to here. And then I want to see how fast can you go, and how far can you throw that club cover behind you. The further you can throw the club cover, the faster you can move your lead shoulder, the faster the club head goes and given center contact. Then, the farther the ball goes. So come on left shoulder, do your stuff! Let me see if I can get that left shoulder to go from here, to here, as quick as I can. It absolutely adds distance, here we go. I can't do any better than that, so just saying: you might want to use your left shoulder. That should help!
